Please contact your Illinois State Senators and House Reps and ask them to support legislation to reestablish standing for citizens impacted by factory livestock operations (SB3005/HB5119).
Surrounding neighbors and impacted communities should have the ability to seek judicial review of poor and illegal siting decisions by the IDOA. An appeal process is afforded to applicants for new factory livestock facilities, it should also be afforded to those from the community who stand to be directly impacted.
There is no reason why livestock factories shouldn't be regulated like all other commercial industries and citizens afforded an opportunity to meaningfully weigh in on such developments impacting their communities.
In addition, we need all livestock operations to submit waste management plans for public scrutiny and approval by IDOA/IEPA as part of the siting process. Once facilities are up and running they all should have to register with the IEPA, so the Agency can account for them and ensure against pollution from their operations.

Lawmakers need to hear from their constituents on these issues, otherwise the the agri-business lobby will continue to dominate these debates in Springfield.
